Lexi had her final band concert, tonight. They were so good! My middle school band for sure didn’t sound like that…they played some really challenging pieces of music.

Mom’s car battery died this afternoon, so after the concert Eric went with us to get things up and running. Mom was upset that we were there dealing with it all. Really it was fine. I mean, it wasn’t fun…but I also know that there are people with real problems. Those people would have traded with us in heartbeat.

People are going to soon get tired of me reminding them of this. Sometimes I say it, just to remind myself. Either way it = a true story.

Eric took Lexi’s bike out this morning and rode it on the deck.

She protested the entire time.

A fun video can be viewed here.

Mom came by and took us to lunch. We worked out the paying situation before we left the house. Really before she got here. She won.

Eric and I made faces at each other the entire time because there was a girl sitting at a table next to us that talked non-stop. Not to us, but to the girl sitting with her. It was pretty annoying. I wouldn’t have been able to sit and have lunch with her.

Also, it poured this afternoon. Perfect nap weather.

Eric and I took Lexi to Target this afternoon to buy her a new bike. She’s hoping to ride it to school, next year. Though I know my mom is going to be sad about that.

She wanted a different one, but this one was a little better on the pocketbook. I know she was a little disappointed, but hopefully this one will grow on her. I think it’s got a really classic and timeless look.

Honestly, I’m a little jealous.

Fun video of Eric in the store, isĀ here. Things are never boring.

Lexi was inducted into the National Junior Honor Society tonight.

So proud of her.

Sadly this is not a fantastic photo of Lexi. But it is though, a documentation of the event.

Lexi received a certificate and member card from the Blanker School Division President and a shake of the hand by Ms. Roper, the school principal.

The existing members as well as new members stood next to each other, spanning half way around the gym and they lit candles from the candles of the officers. All lit from the four candles signifying the characteristics sought in each of it’s members.

Everyone looked so nice, all dressed up for this event. It’s nice to see everyone sometimes out of the uniforms and able to express themselves with their own unique wardrobe. I love seeing the originality, even at this age. (Though I do still love the uniforms and the fact that it forces them to express themselves in other ways also.)

There was a reception after. I was trying to be the cool mom and let Lexi have time with her friends, without hovering. I regret not taking photos. And she asked me about it afterwards. I told her about my plan to look cool. She for sure provided me with some photo-taking etiquette input: This would have been the time for photos. At breakfast (or a similar time) is not.

I’ve learned my lesson. I might take photos at a similar event in the future. But probably will never stop taking photos in the moments that seam insignificant but are everything but that, ever.
